Overview

Since 2003 the Research Office has facilitated a support programme for emerging researchers at the University of Cape Town. Participants in the programme come from all academic levels, from those starting out in their research careers to more senior staff.

Aim

To help staff members develop as researchers and increase their measurable research output in order to eventually obtain NRF Rating.

Who can participate

Permanent and T3 contract academic staff members who recognise the need to develop their personal research profiles and would like support in doing so.

Benefits

The Emerging Researcher Programme offers the following:

Funding for emerging researchers

Aim

To help staff members develop as researchers and increase their measurable research output in order to eventually obtain NRF Rating.

Who can apply

Signed-up members of the Emerging Researcher Programme, as this allows for mentoring and tracking of their progress.

Researchers may apply for Emerging Researcher funding up to three times (not necessarily consecutively). Although participating Emerging Researchers are eligible to apply for three rounds of funding, all those eligible to do so are encouraged to apply for NRF funding as soon as possible.

Deadlines

Two rounds of funding are held per year. Application deadlines are circulated in advance among emerging researchers.
